Internal Family Systems
Do you ever feel like different parts of you are pulling in opposite directions? One part wants to move forward, while another holds you back?
If your answer is yes, I encourage you to explore Internal Family Systems, or IFS.
IFS is an approach to therapy based on the idea that we all have different “parts” within us, each with its own thoughts, feelings, and roles. Some parts try to protect us, some carry pain, and others help us function day to day. At the core of all of this is your “Self” — the calm, grounded, compassionate center of who you are.
When we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or reactive, it’s often because these parts are working overtime or are in conflict with each other.
IFS helps individuals to:
- Become more aware of the different parts within themselves
- Understand the purpose behind each part, even the ones that feel disruptive
- Develop compassion for parts that carry pain, fear, or shame in order to feel balanced
- Reduce inner conflict and reactivity
- Heal wounded parts so they no longer have to carry the same burdens
Unlike approaches that focus on changing or fixing thoughts and behaviors, IFS helps you build a relationship with yourself.
If you are seeking a deeper understanding of yourself and a more compassionate way to navigate your inner world, I encourage you to reach out. Together, we’ll work on helping your parts feel heard, supported, and guided by your strongest, most grounded Self.
