ADJUSTING TO MOVING TO NASHVILLE

ADJUSTING TO MOVING TO NASHVILLE

By Michelle Nagy, M.Ed.

“100 people move to Nashville a day.” It’s become a common conversation starter among friends or even with the local Uber driver. Everyone knows someone who has made the move or even they themselves fall into this category. Maybe they have received a promotion, are going back to school or have decided that it was just time for a life change. So they pack up their car, maybe a U-Haul if they have a set of furniture they just can’t leave behind, and make their way to Music City.

In a perfect world, the transition is seamless. The new job has reignited their passion for their work, they have made a new close group of friends between work or school, the gym and the local dog park and they are easily settling into what has become their “new normal.”

But what happens when things don’t go as seamless as we hope?

What happens if the job isn’t as great as we had hoped for, or the glaring reality of how difficult it can be to make friends as an adult starts to set in, or the once suppressed feelings of general depression and anxiety begin to build up.

While it might not be what is shown on Instagram, this is a reality many people face when moving to a new city. This is often accompanied by a sense of loneliness and feelings of being unsure about oneself and the future.

You don’t have to go through his journey alone. At Connection First Counseling we are here to help you re-discover your confidence, sense of belonging and connection to yourself and your life. Whether it is helping you find ways to get established in your social life, creating an emotional outlet through journaling or painting or talking through old wounds that are still holding you back we are here to help find what works for you. We would love to walk with you as you go through this time of life transition and find the version of your “new normal” you have been hoping for.
